Sometimes doing the right thing means standing alone.

In EP 3638 of The Strong Life Project, Shaun O’Gorman explores why sometimes you have to go against the crowd, especially when following everyone else means compromising your values, standards or future.

There is enormous pressure in modern life to fit in. We look around at what everyone else is doing, listen to the opinions of people around us and often make decisions based on what will keep us accepted rather than what will make us stronger. The problem is that following the crowd can take you further away from the person you actually want to become.

Going against the crowd does not mean being difficult, rebellious or deliberately different. It means having the courage to think for yourself. It means being willing to question the popular opinion, challenge your own assumptions and make decisions based on your principles rather than the approval of others.

This is particularly important in leadership, relationships, business and personal development. Strong leaders cannot build great organisations by constantly looking around to see what everyone else is doing. They need the courage to make difficult decisions, maintain high standards and stand behind what they believe is right.

The same principle applies to your personal life. Your friends, family, colleagues and society may all have expectations about how you should live. Ultimately, you are responsible for the choices you make and the consequences that follow.

If you have ever felt pressure to conform, questioned whether you were making the right decision because other people disagreed with you, or found yourself lowering your standards to fit in, this episode will give you plenty to think about.

Sometimes the strongest decision you can make is the one that nobody else understands.
