Review

Hi from Canada

Hi Shaun

I know you are a really busy guy so I don’t need a response but I did just want to say thanks for all you do! I’ve only recently started listening to your podcasts but they deliver tons of value, I look forward to them during my fitness, and you push me to do my best!

You make some things sound simple and then when I stop to think about it, they are! Keep up the great work my friend! Thank you)

Hey there. My names Wayne. Been listening for about the last thirty episodes or so. Great work man!

I’ve got just under 12 yrs service in the force over in Canada. I’ve been dealing with PTSD for a while now and only recently started to accept it and be more “out” with it. Ugh.

Anyway, I started a podcast a few months back and I’ve been wanting to ask you about what you’ve done since retiring? Your episodes kick me in the gut sometimes haha and it seems obvious that you’ve been working on this for some time now.

Hi Shaun

I came across your podcast a few months ago by chance. I can’t remember exactly which podcast I was listening to at the time about suicide and depression and you were a guest on that particular show. Anyway I know your podcast focuses particularly on police officers but I thought I needed to reach out and explain how you have helped me. I am not a police officer but was unfortunate enough to go through an extremely traumatic event that resulted in somebody being shot and me fleeing for my life. This has left me suffering from flashbacks, daily suicidal thoughts, and terrible nightmares which got to the point of being quite debilitating.

I was in an extremely dark place drinking and taking prescription medication everyday to numb the pain and to try forget the memories. Slowly the drinking and prescription drug use increased and got out of control. I battled suicidal thoughts everyday and the future seemed hopeless. I landed up in hospital on two occasions because of prescription drug and alcohol overdoses which nearly resulted in me losing my life. During this time I had subscribed to your podcast but fell behind on them because of this. I was sitting one day and thinking of how I was going to distract myself in order to stop myself from doing something stupid again and start drinking and go through the entire process of self destruction once again. It was the podcast suicide is never the answer (I think that’s the title of it) that was my turning point. I listened to a few that day and slowly the thoughts disappeared for the first time in ages.

I know you probably hear this everyday and even though I am not a police officer your positivity and your podcast I feel has saved my life. I decided that day that I was at rock bottom and my family and friends were slowing pulling away and I realised I’m going to end up alone and then finally dead. I gave up drinking and it has only been 35 days since my last drink but I am working hard everyday to stay sober and move forward. I listened to your podcast with 180 nutrition and I am eating better and waking up 5.30am to go the gym and work out 5 days a week. I still have my tough days and struggle badly with nightmares, flashbacks and suicidal thoughts but I am taking it one day at a time and I am receiving therapy for this. But to be honest I am so fortunate to have come across your podcast as it has really helped me and picks me up when I feel I’m having a tough day.

Apologies for the long-winded email but I felt it was necessary to reach out and let you know that you are making a difference in people lives and thank you for taking the time every day to put out your podcast. I have recently purchased your book and making my way through it, so thanks for getting your story out I believe it will be helping so many people.

Hi Shaun,

Love your work! A friend put me onto your podcasts which at first (two weeks ago) I found the swearing confronting (at 61, you’d think I’d know how to get over that quickly by now🤦‍♀️). I’m resonating really well with many of your messages and it is helping me. I have just put my 70 y.o. husband into aged care after his 5th stroke. Currently going through the grief process, who’s got my back, which if my 4 children do I lean on to help make decisions, living on my own, work/life balance, being isolated from my grandchildren due to Covid, financial confusion, a whole new raft of things! Not asking anything of you, just letting you know you are helping me feel like “I got this”.Have a wonderful day. Sincerely
